Every day, approximately 7 or 8 Blu-ray titles are released on physical media, featuring top-quality video and audio reproduction. Blu-ray Disc is often still the preferred choice over streaming, especially for musicians. Immersive audio formats such as Dolby Atmos surround sound are not always available on streaming platforms.
There are many other reasons why Blu-rays remain marketable. Unlike streaming companies, who remove movies and titles at their discretion and can change or shut down their platform at will, owning a Blu-ray Disc allows for permanent access to that particular media as a physical product.
Similar to holding a book in your hand, the disc and its case feature beautiful artwork, and the package is easily transportable. There is also no substitute for the on-screen menus allowing viewers to jump to different scenes and bonus features. Lastly, watching a Blu-ray Disc is not dependent on a strong Internet connection or remembering a password.
My latest Blu-ray project was the authoring of the first major calibration disc for Dolby Atmos, the Spatial Audio Calibration Toolkit. The disc allows the ability to properly calibrate your home audio experience to make sure it performs at its best. I authored this disc with over 160 individual movies and Dolby Atmos audio files. Each file provides important tests for different speaker channel configurations.
All these reasons and more are why I still provide physical disc media services, including DVD and Blu-ray.
