NYCA – A Great Opportunity for Young Musicians

If you have not heard or read about the New York Concert Artists & Associates (NYCA), I hope that this short article will inspire you as I was inspired when I filmed the finalists of the 2017 NYCA Worldwide Debut Audition. The three finalists exquisitely performed concertos with NYCA Symphony Orchestra at the Merkin Concert Hall in New York City. Eduard Zilberkant conducted.

Founded in 2008 by Klara Min, NYCA is a modern-day realization of Robert Schumann's Alliance of David (Davidsbund), an imagined spiritual fraternity of creative minds. One of NYCA's most prominent and creative yearly events is the Worldwide Debut Audition. The goal of the Debut Audition is to discover young musicians of great talent, and give them exposure to the world music scene.

The prizes are:

  • A debut recital at Berlin Philharmonie Hall, Carnegie Weill Hall, or
    Carnegie Zankel Hall.
  • A recording with the Steinway & Sons Label.
  • A performance invitation to Classical Bridge Festival in August 2018.

Read more about NYCA and watch video clips of more Debut Audition winners.

My Support for 4K Ultra HD Filming and Editing

As prices of 4K Ultra High Definition TVs, which display four times the resolution of regular HDTVs, keep falling, the number of households who own a 4K Ultra HDTV keeps growing. It is predicted that 2 out of 3 households in the United States will own a 4K Ultra HDTV in 2019.

Because the ownership of 4K Ultra HDTVs continues to increase, new and repeat customers started asking me if I support 4K Ultra HD filming and editing. In this short article, I will briefly describe my 4K Ultra HD support and suggest how to watch 4K Ultra HD video clips on different platforms.

I currently own high-quality 4K Ultra HD cameras that allow me to film in 4K Ultra HD live concerts, recording sessions, documentaries, interviews, and corporate and special events. In addition, I have a very fast workstation (industry grade) as well as two (2) 4K Ultra HD computer monitors. I also have two (2) 4K Ultra HDTVs, in 43” and 55” sizes. I use Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere Pro editing software that fully support editing in 4K Ultra HD. I also support Final Cut Pro X as well as legacy Final Cut Pro 7.

There are three ways to watch 4K Ultra HD video clips that I film:

  1. Watching 4K Ultra HD video clips on YouTube

YouTube supports 4K Ultra HD resolution; therefore, 4K Ultra HD video clips can be uploaded to YouTube and watched in 4K Ultra HD resolution on a 4K Ultra HDTV or 4K Ultra HD computer monitor. If you do not have a 4K Ultra HDTV or 4K Ultra HD computer monitor, YouTube automatically converts the 4K Ultra HD video clip to a lower resolution. You can then watch it on your regular TV or computer monitor.

  2. Watching 4K Ultra HD video clips from a USB flash drive

4K Ultra HD video clips can be copied directly to a USB flash drive as files. Then, you simply connect the USB flash drive to your 4K Ultra HDTV's USB port to start watching your clip in 4K Ultra HD resolution, using the TV's built-in video player app.

  3. Watching 4K Ultra HD video clips using disc players

I can author a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc that you can watch on a 4K Ultra HDTV. For people that do not own 4K Ultra HDTVs or 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc players, I can author a Blu-ray Disc (high definition) or a DVD (standard definition) instead.
