I recently filmed the Olympus Piano Trio at Merkin Concert Hall on November 5th, 2015. Heralded as "astounding... unbelievable magnitude of talent and maturity... unique in every sense" (Athens Estia), and praised for their "unanimity of phrasing", "incredibly velvety tone", and "a passionate commitment to every note they play" (New York Concert Review), the Olympus Piano Trio combines the forces of three exciting young soloists: violinist Regi Papa, cellist Benjamin Capps, and pianist Konstantine Valianatos.
Formed at The Juilliard School in New York in 2010 to celebrate a common Hellenic heritage, the Olympus Piano Trio performs a wide repertoire of classical masterpieces and champions the music of native Greek and Diaspora composers.
In addition to trios of Rachmaninoff, Ravel and Mendelssohn, the program at Merkin Concert Hall included the New York premiere of Greek Canadian composer Christos Hatzis' Odd World (from Constantinople).
The event was jointly sponsored by the Onassis Foundation (USA) and the Hellenic-American Cultural Foundation. Named in honor of its founder, Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis, the Onassis Foundation Foundation (USA) is committed to the promotion of Hellenic culture and cultural relations between Greece and the Americas.
