Pianist Jerome Rose's Free Downloadable Master Lessons Help Intermediate Pianists Become Virtuosos

Jerome Rose, one of America's most distinguished pianists, published four music books over 30 years ago - this series of four books was called "For the Young Virtuoso." Each book is comprised of anthologies of intermediate level masterpieces.

The anthologies include compositions by Scriabin, Scarlatti, Beethoven, Chopin and Liszt, among others. Three sections, written by Mr. Rose, precede each composition: background about the piece; a description of its style and interpretation; and advice on practicing.

The purpose of these books was to focus on the development of intermediate level pianists and the repertoire they need to learn in order to improve their playing.

Because the books are no longer in print, Mr. Rose came up with a creative idea to scan the pages of all four books and convert them to a digital format. Now, piano students and teachers can view for free the sheet music and listen to Mr. Rose's beautiful interpretation playing in the background on YouTube. The sheet music pages turn automatically when the music advances to the next page.

I enjoyed working with Mr. Rose on this project. The main challenge was to synchronize the timing of the sheet music with the recorded playing. Being a pianist and a video editor helped me to make this important project a reality.
